THE PHOTO:
First is a series from my recent trip (24th December to 2nd January 09/10) to Cambodia and Vietnam. This is the famous Angkor Wat complex - one of the most photographed scenes in Cambodia. I, alongside about 300 other photographers, was lining up along the pond-bank to get the sun coming up behind the main complex.

POST PROCESSING:
I had my camera set to JPEG rather than RAW to allow me to take more photos during the trip, and I felt more like a happy-snapper than a photographer because of it. So this image wasn't the sharpest, or best exposed one I took (there were about 50 shots taken), but it had the best composition.

Shadow/Highlight, USM, Color Balance, Rotate, Crop, Levels/Curves.

THE PHOTO:
Another in the hot-air balloon series (honestly - how many chances like this do you get - let me milk it). This shot being a wider-angle shot similar to this earlier one.

POST PROCESSING:
I think I tried for about an hour to get some level of detail into this shot, but in the end it's pretty much how it came out of the camera except for some sharpening and a slight tint.

THE PHOTO:
This is probably the strongest shot from my weekend treat to a hot-air balloon ride in the Yarra Glen region just outside of Melbourne. While I can't vouch for the operators in a positive fashion, given the right weather (like we were lucky to have), some of the views are quite astounding. I am looking forward to comparing this rural experience to a future urban one.

THE PHOTO:
Taken during a recent pre-dawn outing around Docklands in Melbourne, I ventured to the top (18th floor) of a public car-park and peered over the top towards the west and took this shot of the Yarra River entrance, and the vehicle corridor that provides access for vehicles into this corner of the city.

I can say with certainty that I will be taking more shots from this great spot.

THE PHOTO:
The sunset from Brighton Beach, Melbourne - a fitting shot as the sun sets on 2008 - a eventful year for me:
- Quit my job back home in NZ
- Moved to Melbourne
- Landed a great new job
- Spent 3 wonderful weeks in Italy and Luxembourg
- Sadly lost my Mother to a sudden heart attack

Other than the tragedy at the end of that list, I have no regrets and look forward to what 2009 holds for me (especially with my '101 things in 1001 days' list to commence in February.

This is actually an HDR composite of three bracketed images one stop apart, generated and tone-mapped inside Photomatix, with levels, curves and vignette done in PS CS3.

OTHER:
Obviously too busy to notice, but I missed the fact that seriocomic.com turned 4 years old last month. According to dnscoop.com, this site is worth US$47,427.00 and it looks as though I should be doing some advertising. Last month also saw traffic exceed 7,000 unique visits (out of 16,400 visitors not including search-engines) for the first time - not that you would know that from the number of comments I get. This equated to 84,000 pages being served during that month and 3.93Gb of traffic.

THE PHOTO:
When I couldn't sleep the other day, and woke up at 3am, I found myself watching the sunrise and had the camera ready to capture the pre-sun light filtering over the rural landscape.

POST PROCESSING:
This photo is waaaay too over-processed, but buggered if I wasn't going to post it after all that time wrecking it. You never know what someone else likes.
